Obama’s VP picks for Senate, but a few have high stakes for Dems
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is expected to announce his choice for his top VP nominee Thursday morning.
Sen. Tim Kaine, D of Virginia, is expected as a finalist for the post.
Kaine, who was a top aide to former President Bill Clinton, has a history of strong relationships with Democratic senators.
Kaine has also worked with Democratic Sens.
Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Claire McCaskill of Missouri, among others.
He was considered for Secretary of State in the Clinton administration.
Kaine and Manchin both came out strongly against Trump during the presidential campaign.
He also worked closely with former President Obama during the 2016 campaign, where Kaine worked with the campaign in Virginia.
The White House has said that Biden has also been interested in running for the office, though the president has not endorsed him.
Biden and his wife, Jill, have a daughter, Beau.
